what a beautiful day
i had a pretty fantastic week last week. on wednesday night i drove down to crescent city to hang out with some amazing people. and let me tell you... we had a gas of a time! on thursday we went out to some tidepoools and climbed around for awhile. some strange guy was on the beach with his fancy camera taking pictures and he asked Kathy and i to pose for him. it was super awkward and really funny as we gazed at the ocean whilst emoting nothing. oh crescent city. we went out to the lighthouse after that and while everyone walked out to the lighthouse, Mark and i stayed and made friends with some squirrels. basically, we found some trail mix and then the squirrels came from everywhere and crawled all over us! at one point we both had at least three squirrels on us and everyone came back and they were amazed at our squirrel appeal. then we had a nice chat about rabies... that was fun.
later that day we went out to the pier where they have these crazy things called tetrapods and dolos. basically they are like giant jacks set up in crazy ways and you can climb and jump and crawl all over them. it's like a giant jungle gym in the ocean. i'm not going to lie, it is probably the coolest part of the "triple c." we went and played pool at the movie theater, and by "we went and played pool" i really mean Amy and Travis played pool and i slept on a bench. it was pretty great. thursday night we watched a movie, but i'm not really allowed to talk about it because it can easily be classified in the top five worst movies ever made. it pains me to speak of it, but just as a tip, if you ever feel inclined to watch the sequel to a certain movie who's name rhymes with "the arrival" (and by rhymes with i really mean IS) DON'T!!! seriously, it is just not a good situation in any way. believe me... worse than any Lindsay Blohan movie guaranteed.
then there was friday. i shot my first gun ever! it as super fun. we shot targets and skeet with shotguns and then got to shoot a revolver. and let me tell you, Travis Lund is such a manly man in crescent city. it was really funny to watch. but that's beside the point. Ryan and Dave took my car on friday to drive back up to newberg and the rest of us went crabbing. having been crabbing before, not catching anything was very trying on my attention span. but when we were pulling up the pots to leave i pulled up this wicked sun starr (not sure that's what it was really called, but we'll go with it for now). this thing was so stinking cool! it was super slimy and had lots of little legs. needless to say, i was very pleased with myself for catching such a sweet creature. we watched another terrible movie on friday... seriously striking out on the cinematic endeavors. stealth is a no-go... just trust me on that one.
saturday we woke up bright and early to drive up the coast to astoria. an hour and a half later we started out on our journey. i read my first Sherlock Holmes stories in the car and found the flippant remarks about cocaine use quite funny. we made really good time, had lunch up on a cliff overlooking the ocean on a beautiful, beautiful day! we were even able to stop in lincoln city at the coolest bookstore ever! bought a book about the yeti and sasquatch (which i guess are the same thing) and then continued on our journey. got to astoria really early and played battle of the sexes while drinking milkshakes. what a splendid way to spend your time. Emily and Jake's wedding was so beautiful! it was really formal and traditional... except for the whole standing in the back because we didn't get there early enough to get a seat. the reception was super fun and we danced and sweat until 11! hung out, drove home, stopped to look at stars, hung out at Ryan's, then took Dave to the airport. i went to bed at 6.
so all in all...
amazing weekend
terrible movies
lots of time on the road
great dancing
friends that make me laugh
